Why does Phantom (or an 'unknown' wallet) pop up instead of my MetaMask when I connect? Is it a scam?

This is not a scam. It happens when you have more than one wallet extension installed (e.g. MetaMask + Phantom). The Pad supports multiple networks, so it may default to Phantom when both are present.

  1. When the Phantom popup appears, go ahead and continue — shortly after you should get a second prompt asking to continue with MetaMask. Choose that, as long as you're connecting via the EVM path and not Solana.
  2. If it keeps defaulting to the wrong wallet, use a separate browser (e.g. Brave) with only MetaMask installed to avoid the extension conflict.
